Frequently Asked Questions:

Q.

What do you mean when you say creativity?

A.

Creativity is making and communicating meaningful new connections.

Q.

How is creativity different from innovation?

A.

Innovation is the value-added application of a creative idea.

Q.

When I think of creativity I think of art, drama, and dance. What is eclecthink’s approach?

A.

eclecthink uses a science-based focus for creative activities augmented with arts when appropriate.

Q.

Why do I need to be more creative?

A.

Being more creative opens up a more positive and optimistic attitude and lifestyle. Being more creative gives you perspectives that most people never encounter and ensures that you will always know where to start in solving problems and you will never be at a loss for exciting possibilities.

Q.

Can I learn to be creative even if I wasn’t born creative?

A.

A large percentage of the population (99%) is born creative, but we lose the ability because of how we may have been taught, societal and peer pressures and, until recently, the belief that creative people were impractical and flaky. Studies and experience have shown that creativity, like any other mental or physical skill, can be developed.

Q.

What’s your facilitation style?

A.

eclecthink’s approach is participation and interaction. Small groups with group-to-group interaction is common – large group ideation around a flipchart is rare. Small group (2-5) ideation is the norm allowing for input from all. Consensus building techniques are also incorporated. Active participation sessions account for a variety of learning styles.

Q.

What do I get? Are you going to turn me into Leonardo de Vinci?

A.

What you’ll get are usable, transferable and immediately applicable strategies for viewing your issues in different ways. Strategies applicable to any content or topic.

Q.

What is VIEW and why is it important?

A.

VIEW is an inventory of problem solving style.  It examines three dimensions of in what ways are you creative and identifies how individuals approach creativity.  In a team setting it identifies what styles are present within the team and can be used to optimize team performance.

Q.

I am interested in a more innovative climate for my organization.  Where do I start?

A.

The best place to start is with SOQ - Situational Outlook Questionnaire.  It is a two part online questionnaire that measures people's perceptions of the climate for creativity, innovation, and change within their immediate work environment using both quantitative and qualitative questions.  It can be applied at the leadership development, team or organizational levels.

Q.

Is there a relationship between creative thinking and critical thinking?

A.

Critical thinking and creative thinking are complementary and both are needed for effective problem solving or opportunity identification. One without the other leads organizations along a disastrous path.

Q.

What is the Cost?

A.

Fees are determined after an initial complimentary consultation to assess need and are based on the number of participants and type of program.
